The
history of Gauda Saraswat Brahmin community of Cochin comprise of the
History of Temple, History
of Community and the History of Kashi Mutt.
Gosripuram temple, known as Cochin Tirumala Devaswom, is the hub
of spiritual, social and cultural activities of the Gauda Saraswat
Brahmin Community at Cochin. This temple has a history of more than 400
years. The exodus of Gauda Saraswat Brahmins
from Goa, during the Sixteenth Century, their settlement at Gosripuram
in Cochin, the building up of the community and temple, the persecution
of Konkanis at the hands of Portuguese, their fleeing to Alleppy and the
final return and settlement again at Gosripuram. Kashi
Mutt Samsthan, the institution that nourished the Gauda Saraswat Brahmin
community of the whole of the India is the fulfillment of the deep spiritual
